Meditation

MEDITATION – mindfulness – contemplation – Self Reflection

reflections

One of the common myths about meditation is that we learn to blank our minds – that we are aiming to have no thoughts. Whilst this is a legitimate form of meditation, it is only one of hundreds of different kinds. In Mindfulness Meditation, which is sometimes called Calm Abiding or Shamatha, this is not the aim. Instead, we learn to familiarise ourselves with the workings of our ordinary mind. We learn to sit and watch the thoughts, coming and going and we train in letting them go with an attitude of gentleness and non-judgement. If we do this regularly, for 10, 20 or 40 minutes a day, we gradually build up an ability not to be unseated by our prevailing thoughts or by something that comes from left field. The result is that we find ourselves with what seems like an extra split second in which we can choose how to react to the stresses of what life throws up instead of habitual knee-jerk reactions and patterns we usually resort to under stress.

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

Áine has studied and practiced meditation with Buddhist and Taoist masters, with Jesuits and Psychoneuroimmunology experts. She has been a meditation instructor and teacher within the Shambhala International Organisation where she attended many retreats ranging from 1 month to a year.  If you are looking to start a meditation practice, be it for stress management, health management, spiritual pursuits or just a way to get to know yourself or unleash some natural creative ability,  Áine can help.

For some people, joining a group is not something they feel drawn to for a variety of reasons. Hence we offer one to one instruction at the clinic, by appointment, at a charge of only $40 per hour. If you want to share the cost with one or two friends, bring them along and learn together.
